Getting your first double-bodyweight deadlift

The double-bodyweight deadlift is the number most lifters chase somewhere in their second or third year of training, and it's usually where good technique starts paying serious dividends.

The temptation is to test it every week. Don't. What actually gets you there is a twelve-week block spent at 70–80% of your working max, with heavy singles built into the last three weeks of the block. If your reps at 75% start looking sloppy, you drop back to 70% for two weeks, then try again.

Most Ironline lifters who hit the number in the last year got there by not testing for eleven weeks and then finding themselves genuinely surprised on the twelfth.
